Job Description

  • Processing orders: Entering customer information into the computer, including name, address, account number, item number, price, and sales or promotions 
  • Communicating with customers: Informing customers of prices, shipping dates, and delays 
  • Handling complaints: Addressing complaints about unfulfilled orders 
  • Preparing documents: Preparing contracts, invoices, and shipping documents 
  • Following up on orders: Checking inventory control, ordering more merchandise, and following up on orders 
  • Working with others: Working with production, sales, shipping, warehouse, or common carrier personnel to expedite or trace shipments 

Job Requirements

  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is usually required. Some employers may prefer candidates with an associate's degree or college experience. 
  • Training: Most order clerks receive a few weeks of on-the-job training that covers clerical procedures and computer applications. 
  • Experience: Some work-related experience is usually required. 
  • Skills: Order clerks need to have strong communication and customer service skills, and be able to multitask. They should also be organized, have good clerical skills, and be able to use logic and reasoning to solve problems. 
  • Software: Order clerks should be proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with order processing software. 
  • Courses: Courses in word processing and spreadsheet applications can be helpful.

Additional Information

Pay rate: $16.50/Hour +

Pay range: $16.50-$85 (We are required by law to list highest paid employee)
